According to the NHS, type-2 diabetes is a common condition which causes the level of sugar in the blood to increase.
Common symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination and rapid weight loss.
Luckily for patients, there are several ways to reduce symptoms of type-2 diabetes.
One important factor is by following a healthy and balanced diet, as well as adopting an exercise regime.
We spoke to LloydsPharmacy pharmacist Anshu Kaura who revealed the food which could reduce type-2 diabetes.
“The diet is simple to follow and perfect for the warmer months”
She told Daily Star Online: “The Mediterranean diet targets three key risk factors for those who have type-2 diabetes: blood glucose levels, blood pressure and cholesterol.
“There have been a number of studies demonstrating the efficiency of the diet, including its ability to prevent diabetes, improve glycemic control and reduce cardiovascular complications.
“The diet is simple to follow and perfect for the warmer months. A Mediterranean diet should be high in vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, cereals, grains, fish and unsaturated fats such as olive oil.”
One component of the Mediterranean diet which can have particular health benefits is the consumption of oily fish.
Ashnu explained: “It is recommended to include at least two portions of fish (one of which should be oily) in your weekly diet. Oily fish such as salmon is rich in vitamins and minerals and high in omega 3 fatty acids which helps to maintain a healthy heart and cholesterol levels.
“High blood pressure is commonly associated with type-2 diabetes, where having both high blood pressure and type-2 diabetes raises the risk of a heart problem. Oily fish also often contains rich sources of vitamin D, and many people with type-2 diabetes have lower vitamin D levels.
“It is thought that vitamin D can enhance the body’s insulin sensitivity, and help reduce insulin resistance and keep blood sugar levels controlled.”
But Ashnu strongly advises following a balanced diet as a way of reducing type-2 diabetes symptoms.
As the NHS states, following a healthy diet and keeping active will help you manage your blood sugar levels.
The website said: “It will also help you to control your weight and generally feel better.”

5. Itching around your genitals or repeatedly getting thrush
