While there was a lot revealed during the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle interview with Oprah that was shocking and deeply problematic, a sliver of good news did emerge from the tell-all sit-down with the television star: the royal couple is expecting a baby girl. Meghan was brimming with happiness at the news, which she waited to reveal only when Harry sat down to join her and Oprah and it was clear from his expression that the Prince is thrilled with the new addition to the family.
As the world eagerly awaits the birth of their daughter, Meghan already has a gift she plans on passing down to her child. While it’s not quite the engagement ring some may have expected, the piece of jewellery in question is no less beautiful and sentimental. It’s a Cartier ‘Tank Francaise’ timepiece that Markle bought for herself long before she met Prince Harry.
According to 9Honey, Markle treated herself to the expensive design (for reference, the yellow gold version retails for around $7,800 in Australia) as a reward for the success of Suits. The actress previously told Hello, “When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged.”
She added, “I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day.”
In doing so, Meghan will follow in the royal family tradition of passing on precious pieces of jewellery down through generations. Already, Meghan’s own engagement ring features two diamonds from Princess Diana’s private collection, while Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, wears the sapphire engagement ring that once belonged to the late princess.
